TEMPLE STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Executive Office of the President
For Immediate Release September 9, 2011
Today Dr. Ann Weaver Hart announced that she will be formally resigning as president of Temple University effective June 2012. We, like all Temple students, were just as surprised by the president’s announcement this morning.
Over the past five years President Hart led a successful groundbreaking campaign to transformTempleinto a major urban research university. From the hallmark 20/20 plan to the academic strategic compass and the largest fundraising effort in the university’s history, President Hart’s impact will be felt for years to come. Her decision to announce her resignation now leaves the university with ample time to conduct a thoughtful nationwide search for her successor and is proof of her commitment toTemple’s future.
As theTemplecommunity embarks on the search for a new president it is imperative that students are actively involved in the selection process. That is why we look forward to working closely with Chairman O’Connor and the Board of Trustees during the coming months in selectingTemple’s next president.
We thank President Hart for her leadership these last five years and look forward to working with her throughout the rest of this academic year. We are confident that the energy and passion she brought to the presidency during her tenure will inspire her successor to further advance Russell Conwell’s vision of doing great deeds with little means, accomplishing vast purposes from the private ranks of life, and cultivating the diamonds in our own backyard.
